DHKL, along with co-counsel Schneider Wallace Cottrell Kim LLP, Peiffer Wolf Carr Kane Conway & Wise, LLP, and Disability Rights Advocates, obtained preliminary approval of a class action settlement that requires the City of Oakland to upgrade its pedestrian right of way so that its sidewalks, curb ramps, and crosswalks are accessible to and usable by people with mobility disabilities. Under the settlement in Curran v. City of Oakland, the City is committing to construct or remediate more than 12,000 curb ramps and 2 million square feet of sidewalks, at an estimated cost of $157 to $325 million, by 2050.
