Consumer Rights

Resolved

Plaintiffs were a certified class of California consumers who purchased automatically renewing in-app subscriptions through Apple’s iTunes store.  They alleged that Apple did not follow California’s Automatic Renewal Law in charging them for those automatically renewing subscriptions.  DHKL and co-counsel successfully defeated Apple’s attempt to dismiss the case, won class certification, defeated Apple’s summary judgment motion, and the case then settled in 2018 on a class basis for $16 million – the largest ARL settlement at the time.
