Consumer Rights

Resolved

On June 13, 2019, the Alameda County Superior Court granted final approval of a $10 million settlement against Twilio, Inc. in a certified class action involving claims under the California Invasion of Privacy Act. The settlement agreement also required Twilio to implement several policy changes, including revisions to its Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy and notification to its existing customers about the changes, as well as creating guidance and best practices available to customers on compliance with recording laws.

The case was originally filed on February 18, 2016. Plaintiff alleged that Twilio recorded California consumers’ phone calls and text messages without their knowledge or consent.
